The project consisted of the creation of a new formal entrance forum for the Grade 1 Listed building. This entailed the insertion of a new piazza inside the existing quadrangle buildings, around the Smirke Reading Room. The challenges involved the environmental and fire engineering consequences of forming the glazed roof enclosure. The solution involved the use of passive cooling techniques by use of the existing building fabric to pre-condition the environmental air supplies to the entrance hall. My role as project director focussed on leading the multi-disciplinary engineering team, and in particular the environmental control solutions for the new dynamic space.

The project consisted of the design and construction of a demountable opera house for the world famous Garsington Opera at the Wormsley Estate in Buckinghamshire. Design challenges included creating comfortable environmental conditions for the audience within the lightweight demountable building, whilst maintaining the required lighting and acoustic conditions for the opera events. I was project director for the environmental and building services design of the building.
